Well summer is definitly in full swing here in Florida. And because of our moving situation I will not be hardcore homeschooling throught the summer like I wanted to. Instead I will have the kids reading and doing book reports until we get settled in our new place. Which should keep them busy for a bit and will be good for my son seeing as all he wants to do is sleep until noon and play video games. Got to light a motivation candle under him a little.

If anyone homeschools check out this page on my main site to find tons of links to what helps me along in this endeavor. And please share your comments on how things are for you if you do homeschool.

I was supposed to be ready today to start the kids on their next grade schooling but I am a tad bit behind. I finally got their portfolios from last year finished so they will be available when I have to have them evaluated in the fall. Will need to add that they will be half way through the next grade by then too. We are all excited to move forward and with all the textbooks I have this year will be alot easier, pending of course on how the baby behaves :-)

So as of tomorrow morning Big A will be starting 4th grade and J will be starting 10th grade. J is hoping to graduate before his friends and he is well on his way to do just that. Big A is reading at a 6th grade level which she has been working on and thankfully she loves to read.

I teach my two older kids who are in 4th and 10th grades starting next week (they have chosen to school through the summer). I am so happy that I am doing this as I think they are getting a lot out of it. It is also a in my opinion a better way for them to spend their day. Public school kids are in school for 7 hours a day, most of which is spent traveling to and from the school and between classes. By the time attendance is taken, worksheets are passed out they probably have 30 minutes per class. With home-school that is so much more flexible. My kids school from 8am to noon and get so much more accomplished.

Now every one has their own thoughts and opinions on this topic just as with any other one. I get mixed reviews every time someone asks why they aren’t in school. Some people are shocked and some actually wish they could do that for their children. I will have to say that I am extremely fortunate that I am in the position where I can be their teacher. I am not sure I would have been happy with them going back to public school. Anyone else out there home-school their kids? I will say that it seems like it is starting to become a trend here in Florida.
